Stop Asking God for Signs. Start Looking at the Ones He Already Gave You.

One of the most common prayers I hear is this:

"God, please give me a sign."

A sign that this relationship is right.

A sign that this career is meant for me.

A sign that I should wait.

A sign that I should let go.

We ask.

We wait.

Sometimes we become frustrated because heaven seems silent.

But over the years, I have begun wondering something different.

What if God has already answered?

What if we simply keep overlooking the answer because it is not the one we wanted?

The Client Who Kept Asking

A woman once came to us asking the same question she had been asking for years.

"Will he come back?"

She had prayed.

She had cried.

She had waited.

She believed that if she received one unmistakable sign, she would finally have peace.

As we talked, I gently asked her another question.

"How many signs has he already given you?"

She looked confused.

Then we began listing them together.

Years of inconsistency.

Broken promises.

Long periods of silence.

Repeated disappointment.

The signs were there.

They just weren't the signs she wanted.

We Often Pray for More While Ignoring What We Already Have

Human nature is fascinating.

When reality says one thing...

hope sometimes whispers another.

So we continue asking.

Maybe one more dream.

One more coincidence.

One more message.

One more reading.

One more confirmation.

Meanwhile, reality has been patiently speaking all along.

God Often Speaks Through Reality

Many people imagine that God's guidance always arrives through extraordinary experiences.

Sometimes it does.

But much more often, He speaks through ordinary life.

Patterns.

Actions.

Consequences.

Peace.

The people someone repeatedly chooses to become.

Reality is one of God's greatest teachers.

Ignoring reality while waiting for another sign rarely leads to peace.

Even the Saints Practiced Discernment

Throughout Christian history, holy men and women did not chase extraordinary signs for their own sake.

They practiced discernment.

They prayed.

They sought wisdom.

They remained humble.

Most importantly, they allowed God's will to correct their own desires.

That is far more difficult than simply asking for another sign.

The Difference Between Faith and Delay

Sometimes what we call faith is actually delay.

We say:

"I'm waiting on God."

But if we are honest, perhaps we are waiting for God to change someone else's heart instead of allowing Him to change ours.

That realization can be painful.

Yet it can also be incredibly freeing.

One Question Changed Everything

I once asked a client:

"If God never gives you another sign, what has your life already been telling you?"

She became silent.

Then she quietly answered:

"I think I've known the truth for a long time."

Not because someone predicted it.

Because reality had been patiently teaching it.

Why We Need Discernment

When emotions are overwhelming, even obvious truths become difficult to recognize.

Hope is beautiful.

Love is beautiful.

But neither should blind us to reality.

Sometimes a trusted conversation helps us step outside our own emotions long enough to see what has been there all along.

Not because someone else controls our future.

But because honest reflection often reveals what fear has hidden.

A Final Thought

Perhaps the next prayer should not be:

"God, give me another sign."

Perhaps it should be:

"God, give me the courage to accept the signs You have already placed before me."

Because wisdom is not always receiving new answers.

Sometimes wisdom is finally accepting the ones we already have.

Need Clarity?

There are seasons in life when emotions become louder than truth.

When that happens, seeing clearly can be difficult.

Sometimes a thoughtful conversation with someone outside the situation can help you reflect more honestly, recognize patterns you may have overlooked, and move forward with greater peace and discernment.

Not every answer comes from a new sign.

Sometimes it comes from finally understanding the ones already in front of us.
